LLOWLIFE: on/off-line community

A Campingflight to Lowlands Paradise has been the Netherlands' premiere festival for alternative music, theater and art for 15 years straight. Why do visitors get hooked? Do they find this mix of activities in parallel- programmed tents hard to resist? Sure, but mostly they enjoy the company of fellow elated llowlives.

The new platform for interaction has been received with open arms. Visitors are creating profiles, positioning their avatar on the festival area using googlemaps, making friends, sharing pictures, videos, last.fm charts and of course commenting on everything.

Home — The main site's navigation has been abandoned to leave you completely at the mercy of your peers. A random selection of virtual planes is shown on the virtual terrain, while the weekly content winner is announced in pink.

Down home — The rest of the page is bombed by a slideshow of recently uploaded images, video linked from Youtube, a random Llowlife's most recently listened tracks on last.fm and the most favorited artists in the line-up.

Overview — While the planes show where you want to be, the overview shows who you are. Friends are shown as white bombers while Llowlifes you have yet to become acquainted with are green.

Over you, Overview — That's a lot of profiles! Just one month since going live some 1800 users had registered and placed their avatar on the map and site activity was equalled only by the pre-festival rush in August.
